    On 15 December 2008 the Embassy’s trade & investment section organized a seminar “Poland- the land of investment opportunities”. Mr. Pawel Stelmaszczyk, the Vice President of the Polish Information and Foreign Investment agency was the main speaker of the event. It was attended by over 20 representatives of leading Kuwait businesses from the investment, petrochemical, construction sectors as well as business and legal consulting firms. Mr. Stelmaszczyk also took part in separate business meeting in the period of 16 – 19 December and gave interviews to “Al-Watan” and the Kuwait News Agency.



    On 3 December 2008 the Ambassador was received by H.E. Nuriya Al-Sabeeh, the Minister of Education and Higher Education. The topics of the discussion included the development of cooperation, especially aiming at increasing the levels of Kuwait students in Poland and the bilateral legal framework in this regard.



    The Embassy took part in the „Building & Construction” exhibition, from 23 till 29 November 2008. Our The information stand provided brochures and publications by Polish companies mainly in the construction and water management sectors, as well as comprehensive information about business opportunities and economic environment in Poland.



    From 17 till 18 November 2008 H.E. Mr. Donald Tusk, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland paid an official visit to Kuwait. He was accompanied by high level government and business delegations. Mr. Tusk was received, among others by H.H. the Amir, H.H. the Prime Minister, H.E. the Speaker of the National Assembly and H.E. the President of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The purpose of the visit was to enhance the bilateral political relations as well as intensify the links in the investment and trade sectors, through Kuwaiti participation in projects in Poland. The business delegation had a separate program.



    On 7 November the Embassy organized a special concert on the occasion of 90th Anniversary of Poland’s regaining of independence. Mrs. Alicja Wegorzewska-Whiskerd (mezzo-sopran) and Mrs. Tamara Granat (piano) presented a two-part artistic program consisting of works by F. Chopin, A. Mozart, G. Bizet etc.



    From 4 till 9 November 2008 the first ever NATO vessels port visit took place. The program encompassed a number of high ranking officers exchanges, joint training and exercises at sea. The visit was accompanied by the stay in Kuwait of VADM M. Gemignani, the Commander of the Maritime Component at the NATO Command in Naples, Italy. The Embassy of the Republic of Poland prepared, coordinated and took part the program of the visit as the NATO CPE in Kuwait.



    From 2 till 3 November H.E. Mr. Aleksander Grad, Minister of State Treasury of the Republic of Poland paid a visit to Kuwait, accompanied by a delegation, including representatives of leading polish businesses. The visit aimed at highlighting investment opportunities in Poland, in particular regarding the privatization processes. The Polish Minister met, among others, the Minister of Finance of the State of Kuwait, the Managing Director of the Kuwait Investment Authority, executive director of the Kuwait Oil Company, the President of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The business delegation had a separate, individual program.



    In the period of 26-27 October the Kuwait University’s Euro-Gulf Research Unit and the Paris Institute for Political Science (Sciences Po) organized a conference “Regional Integration in the Gulf and in Europe – time for an exchange of experience and evaluation of achievements”. One of the speakers during the event was Radoslaw Bania, PhD, University of Lodz, Poland (“Regional Identity in the EU and GCC – similarities and differences”). During his stay in Kuwait Mr Bania was also interviewed by the Kuwait News Agency.

    The Embassy of the Republic of Poland and the Embassies of other European Union member countries in Kuwait would like to invite to the European Film Week, taking place in Shaab Cinescape Theater in Maidan Hawally from 26 till 30 October 2008. Our Embassy wants to recommend in particular the screening of the “Katyń” by A. Wajda on 28 October at 7 pm. There are no entrance fees for any of the movies.



    On 14 October 2008 Mr. Tomasz Sadzinski, 2nd Secretary of the Embassy met Mr. Ali Haidar, Director General of the Public Authority for Environment, acting as Kuwait’s contact point for the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The discussion concerned the participation of the Kuwaiti delegation in the 14th Conference of Parties to the UNFCCC, which is to take place 1-12 December 2008 in Poznan, Poland.



    From 12 till 14 October 2008 a study visit of Kuwaiti journalists at the NATO HQ in Brussels took place. It was organized by the NATO Public Diplomacy Division and the Polish Embassy in Kuwait in its capacity as NATO CPE. The program of the visit consisted of meetings with high ranking officials of the Alliance, including the NATO Secretary General, and aimed at creating a better understanding of the functioning of the organization and its current priorities.



    On 11 September “Al-Watan Daily” published a letter by the head of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland, which was a reaction to the morally appalling and historically questionable commentary “Adolf Hitler and Jewish claims” posted there by Mr. Ahmad Yousef Al-Duaij. The Embassy condemned the author’s Holocaust denial as well as his approval of genocide of, among others, Jews - Polish citizens by the Nazi Germany during the Second World War.



    In the period of 26 – 28 August 2008 a delegation from the Maritime Component of the NATO Command at Naples, Italy, lead by Cdr Andreas Xenakis visited Kuwait and was received by Kuwaiti officials and Embassy’s representatives. The purpose of the visit was to hold discussions on the first ever port visit of NATO vessels to Kuwait. On August 27th the Embassy organized a briefing for NATO countries diplomatic missions in Kuwait on the subject.



    On 25 August 2008 the Ambassador met H.E. Sheikh Thamer Ali Al-Sabah, Deputy President of the National Security Bureau. The discussions concerned the future development of the cooperation between NATO and Kuwait in the framework of the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative, among others the preparation of the study visit of Kuwaiti journalists to NATO Headquarters in Brussels in October and of the port visit of NATO countries vessels in November 2008.


    2008.08.08 On 6 August the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Kuwait met with H.E. Mr. Ali Mohammed Al-Barrak, the minister of health. The discussions concerned bilateral relation in the field of health treatment and rehabilitation. The host confirmed the growing interest of Kuwait in the possibilities of heath treatment in Poland, making use of the well developed health facilities infrastructure, indicating that this sector is looked at as a promising field of cooperation.



    On August 6th H.E. the Ambassador was received by H.E. Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the Kuwaiti minister of information. The host underlined that cultural and information exchange are most valuable for nations ti learn more about one other. Special role in this field is played by the National Council for Arts, Letters and Literature. H.E. the Ambassador emphasized the will of Poland to strengthen relations with Kuwait in all fields and identified cooperation of national news agencies and exchange of journalist study visits as important opportunities, indicating more activities a more active approach in this regard.



    29 July H.E. the Ambassador of the Republic was received by H.E. Sheikh jaber Al-Khaled Al-Sabah, the minister of interior. During the meeting various topics were discussed, in particular the ways to enhance bilateral relations and further develop them in new fields. H.E. Sheikh Jaber Al-Sabah congratulated the Polish Nation on its successful strive for independence throughout history and its contribution to the fall of communism in 1989. He expressed interest in the Polish community in Kuwait. The Ambassador stressed that Poland supported Kuwait during the invasion and occupation by Iraq. The growing interest do deepen bilateral cooperation was confirmed by the number of Polish businessmen visiting Kuwait, assisted by the decision by Kuwaiti authorities to enable Polish citizens applying for visas at Kuwaiti borders



    27 July 2008 the Embassy’s Trade & Investment Section hosted a meeting with Khaleel I. Abdullah, managing director of the National Real Estate Company (NREC). The discussions concerned the potential cooperation with Polish partners, as well as general investment environment and opportunities in Poland. The NREC is active on the Kuwaiti and regional market since 1973. The value of its projects is estimated at 1.33 billion USD. It is present in United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, Libya and Morocco, among others.



    On July 21st the Embassy organized a meeting with representatives of the Kuwaiti academic circles. The invited guests included dr. Haila Al-Mekaimi (Kuwait University), dr. Laila Al-Othman (distinguished Kuwaiti writer), dr. Fahad Al-Mekrad (Gulf University for Science and Technology, GUST), dr. Masoud Al-Kandari (GUST), Michael J. Costello (Assistant Teaching Professor at the GUST and others. The discussion took place in a very friendly atmosphere and concerned further development of academic cooperation between Poland and Kuwait.



    On July 16th H.E. Mr. Janusz Szwedo, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Kuwait, met H.E. Mr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Aleem, Minister of Oil and the Minister of Electricity and Water of the State of Kuwait and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Petroleum Company (KPC). Officials discussed various issues, including the Polish-Kuwaiti relations in the field of economy, energy and investment. Interlocutors emphasized that bilateral economic relations must be further intensified.



    On July 15th a meeting with dr. Fahad Al-Mekrad took place at the premises of the Embassy. Mr. Al-Mekrad is a lecturer at the Gulf University of Science and Technology and former rector of the Open Arab University in Kuwait. The main topic of discussions was the stay of Mr. Al-Mekrad in Poland, which took place 25 June - 5 July. During this period he participated in a series of meetings organized by the Embassy, i.a. at the University of Lodz and in the "Perspektywy" Foundation, running the "Study in Poland" project. Interlocutors addressed the issue of further development of contacts and cooperation with Polish and Kuwait universities, including through the exchange of academics, students and publications.



    The Embassy of the Republic of Poland would like to inform with deep sadness and sorrow that on June 13th prof. Bronisław Geremek passed away after taking part in a car accident. He was a former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, a parliamentarian in the Lower Chamber of the Polish Parliament (Sejm) and the European Parliament. He was a great statesman, one of the leaders of the "Solidarity" movement, one of the architects of political transformation in Poland and Europe in the 80’s. The Embassy will open a condolence book available on 16th and 17th July between 10.00 a.m. and 12.00 a.m.



    On July 15th the Embassy was visited by a delegation from Bumar Group on a business stay in Kuwait, headed by Dariusz Dębowczyk, vicepresident for commercial activity. Representatives of Bumar Group provided information about the activities and goals of their joint venture business with Kuwaiti investors, the Bumar Gulf company. Together with a group of Polish firms from the defense and security sector Bumar Group will participate in the PROTEX 2008 exhibition, which is scheduled 3 - 6 November. The discussions centered around various ways and opportunities of intensifying Polish-Kuwaiti economic relations and of further promoting the Polish export offer in the region.



    From 9 till 13 of July a delegation of Public Authority of Agriculture and Fish Resources (PAAFR) headed by Jassem Al-Badera, its Chairman and Managing Director, paid a visit to Poland, aiming at identifying areas of potential cooperation. During the visit a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of agriculture was signed. The program of the stay was comprehensive and included meetings with government officials, researchers, academics as well as visits to agricultural and R&D centers. The aim was to boost cooperation in the sector, through, among others, the exchange of knowledge and increase of the trade volume in the agricultural sector.



    On June 23rd representatives of the Embassy participated in the conference entitled “Improved Security Situation in Southern Iraq”, which was coupled with the appearance of Maj. Gen. Barney White-Spunner, commanding officer of the Multi-National Division Southeast (UK). The meeting was organized by the British Business Forum.



    On 14 June Mr. Abbas Dashti, President and Owner of the Innjoyspas Co. met with representatives of the Embassy. The discussions concerned the promotion of tourism to Poland from Kuwait and the Gulf region. The promotional activities of the Kuwaiti company consists of a well developed and informative web site: It is available in English, Arabic and Polish versions.
